Audi’s Deliveries Drop 12% In 2024
German automaker Audi reported a decline in vehicle deliveries, totaling approximately 1.7 million worldwide last year. This 12% drop allowed American EV giant Tesla Inc. to surpass Audi in global vehicle sales.
What Happened
Audi attributed the fall in deliveries to challenging economic conditions, a competitive market, and limited parts availability. Despite the launch of new models, including battery electric vehicles in 2024, the impact on global sales has been gradual. Audi experienced a 21% decrease in Germany, a 13% drop in North America, and an 11% decline in China.
Audi EV Sales
Among its total deliveries, over 164,000 were fully electric models, marking an 8% decline compared to 2023. Marco Schubert, Board Member for Sales and Marketing, stated that challenging economic conditions and unclear government incentive structures are causing reluctance among buyers, particularly for fully electric vehicles.
Why It Matters
The drop in EV sales contributed to Audi’s overall decrease in deliveries, enabling Tesla to surpass it with 1.79 million vehicle deliveries in 2024. Although Tesla’s deliveries fell by about 1.1% from the 1,808,581 vehicles delivered in 2023, it still outpaced Audi.
Tesla celebrated its achievement on the social media platform X, expressing gratitude to its global owners.
