Walmart has unveiled a redesigned logo, eliciting a wave of reactions online, with many on social media joking and creating memes, quipping that “It looks the f****** same.” Newsweek has reached out to Walmart for comment outside of normal working hours.
Why It Matters
As the largest retailer globally, Walmart’s logo change is significant. The family-owned business operates in 24 countries with over 10,000 stores. This marks the brand’s first logo refresh in 17 years.
What To Know
According to a press release, Walmart stated they are “excited to announce a comprehensive brand refresh.” This change aims to reflect Walmart’s evolution as a people-led, tech-powered omnichannel retailer. The updated brand identity features a thicker font, a deeper blue background, and a brighter yellow spark icon.
Social media users quickly reacted. One post on X, viewed over 100,000 times, compared the logos side by side, stating, “Walmart just unveiled their new logo. It looks the f****** same.” Another user remarked, “I can’t believe someone got paid for this.” In contrast, some users appreciated the new design. One wrote, “I kinda like the new Walmart logo,” while another noted the benefit of a “logo tweak and maybe an updated brand and style guide.”
What People Are Saying
William White, Walmart’s senior vice president and chief marketing officer, stated, “While the look and feel of our brand is more contemporary, our refreshed brand identity reflects Walmart’s enduring commitment to both Sam’s principles and serving our customers however they need us. As our customers evolve, we will too. Our Walmart will always be their Walmart, and our brand will always be a testament to how we innovate and change alongside them.”
